🐴 “Stanley” — The Confidence Builder Who Checks All the Boxes
2013 AQHA Gelding 15hh
We got Stanley a couple summers ago to help rebuild confidence after having kids — and he did exactly that. He’s solid, dependable, and gave us every reason to feel safe and enjoy riding again. But as life has it, chasing kids has taken over most of my time, and it’s just not fair to let a horse this nice sit in the pasture.
Stanley
He’s big, stout, and pretty — but it’s his mind that truly sets him apart. As honest as they come, he’s a true point-and-go horse. Easy to ride, level-headed, and just plain enjoyable to be around. The kind you trust, whether you’re getting your confidence back or needing one to get the job done.
He can be taken out of the pasture after months off and ride off like he is rode daily. No buck, no funny business — just went straight to work. He is smooth and slow going unless you ask for more gears than he delivers. He doesn’t need to be ridden every day to stay broke and reliable. We have not had small kids ride him but feel a confident junior would do well.
Here’s What He’s Done:
• Heading & Heeling: He’s been used on both ends with ease. We haven’t been team roping much lately. He has mostly been used for ranch work — but he knows his job and does it quietly.
• Breakaway: He’s roped a lot of breakaway calves and the helomatic out of the box. He hasn’t been entered competitively, but there’s no reason he couldn’t get someone to the 💵 window. I think he’d make a great junior rodeo horse.
• Ranch Work: We’ve used him for all kinds of jobs — moving and treating cattle, dragging calves at brandings, flagging in the pens, and more. He’s steady and reliable in every situation we’ve put him in. He was used at the Waldron ranch all last fall for long days of riding and was sure footed through the rough country.
Has potential for more with his easy going personality.
Before coming to us, Stanley had been used in a ranch setting and in some ranch rodeos. He’s got plenty of miles and has seen a lot of country.
On the ground, he’s just as good. He is looky but not spooky. When doing his cinch it does require patience and a few tightens. He has no buck or bolt just doesn’t love his cinch done up quickly. Sweet, respectful, easy to catch, hauls great, baths, good for the farrier and has excellent manners. Middle of the pecking order in his pen and has got along with all horses we have paired him with.
He’s the kind it’s hard to let go of, but he deserves someone who has the time to enjoy and use him. We truly hate to see him stand around when he has so much to offer.
